The SNOWing haaa
The setting of the movie The Shining, mainly takes place in the hotel that Jack is now responsible for. In the huge hotel, the only alive people are Jack, Danny, and Wendy. Just the three of them alone in this huge hotel creates a feeling of seclusion and mystery, adding to the suspense of the mysteries in the hotel. I noticed that in the film, there was always snow in the scenes where there was a link to outsiders, humanity, or escape. For example, when Wendy is talking to the police station on the phone, there is a window in the center of the shot showing the snow falling. In this scene she is talking to outsiders, people that are not another danger inside the hotel. When Jack is about to murder Wendy, he stops, looks outside in the snow, and sees Dick. Another example would be when Dick is traveling in the snow to the hotel to save Wendy and Danny. Dick is an outsider, and although there is a snow storm, he tried to save them and take them back with him to humanity, until he was killed when he left the snow and went inside the hotel. Also, when Wendy and Danny are escaping Jack, Danny crawls out of the window and slides down the snow, representing escape. Finally, in the last scene Danny is being chased by Jack in a huge snow tunnel, trying to escape him. Danny finally finds Wendy and they drive off together in the snow, leaving Jack to freeze to death. In this last scene during the snow storm, they are finally free.
