Psycho: Reaction to the killing scenes

I thought the most interesting part about Psycho was how it was classified as a horror film. I am normally not a fan of horror films but Psycho was different. I think the main difference that made this movie not as scary was that it was shot in black and white. Because it was shot in black and white I think it hides a lot of the gruesomeness and scariness that most modern films have today. Both of the killing scenes never showed much besides the knife and the victims face as they were killed. I think it is extremely interesting that both of these scenes were so scary for movies back in the day. If that happened in today's world critics would say that it is the worst movie ever. In 1960's though this was considered an all time favorite. I also thought that is was very interesting how the murder scenes were both shot the same way. They would show only the knife and then a loud crunching sound as if the people were being stabbed. The crunching sound seemed like it would be the wrong effect to use in the situation but it ended up working out well adding a weird element to the scene. I overall thought psycho was a great movie for being a horror movie and I think people today should think of making a similar type of film, sort of out of the ordinary.
A movie I think was really scary is Sinister. Fast forward to about 2:15

  1. Hey kev, I also found it very interesting that in the murder scenes, we would never see the stabbing. We would see the motion of a stab and then hear many noises of stabbing. It was kinda gross, but it got the point across. Horror movies are meant to be scary and they used string music and other music to keep us nervous. I disagree, I think it is more scary in black and white. It's less revealing to the audience I feel like, which is plain scary to me.
