Taxi Driver: Travis

Even though the character Travis is the protagonist of the film and we follow his story for a good portion of the movie, he is absolutely unpredictable and we, the audience, never know what his next move is. We really don't get to know Travis so in depth and we never really understand him and the decisions he makes. We do know that initially, Travis wants to fit into the normal world, but he fails. Travis wants to act like a normal person would act, but he is too mentally ill to fit in and act normally. At the start of the film he tries to act normal, but instead he drinks, does drugs and spends time at the porn theater. Travis is an interesting character because of the transformation he goes through during the film. In the beginning, he is a wounded man and through violence and turmoil that occurs in the meantime, by the end of the film, Travis is a completely different character.
